Q. How do I go about reserving a future date?
A. There is no need to reserve a special date. Joe takes a sunrise photo
every day.
Q. What if it is a rainy day?
A. Joe takes a photo even if the conditions do not favor a clear sunrise.
Some of the most dramatic photos are taken on days when a sunrise is not
anticipated :-) Many people still choose a photo from a cloudy day, since
waves and a gentle light upon the water still captures the essence of
someone's special day.
Gift givers and recipients often express their extreme pleasure with a
photo, even a cloudy day, and especially for the birth of a child as: "After
all, it is their first day on Earth. How special is that?" says one recent
giver.
To capture the moment on a cloudy day when the sunrise isn't visible, Joe
coordinates the sunrise using GPS technology to approximate the time the sun
comes up.
Q. How do I pick the photo I want?
A. Joe takes several photos each day. Simply inquire about the
availability of additional photos taken on a particular day, and Joe can post a few others from that
day under "Special Postings" on the Sunrise Today page. You can then view the photos and choose
the one you'd like.
Q. How far back are the photos in Joe's
sunrise library?
A. Joe has all of 2007 (except for 3 days in Oct), 2006 and 2005 (with
the exception of 4 days in 2005), most of 2004, and an additional archive
that goes back to January 1, 2002.
Q. Is there an extra charge if I request a
specific date?
A. No, there isn't an extra charge for requesting a photo for a certain
date.
Q. How quickly can I get my photo?
A. That depends. It is best to call or email your time sensitive request
Q. Does Joe always take the photo from the
same spot?
A. This actually varies. When in Newburyport they are usually taken from
the beach on Plum Island. When in CT there are several spots. Most popular
is Harkness State Park in Waterford CT
Q. If I order a photo and there is no
sunrise that day, am I obligated to purchase something?
A. Absolutely not.
Q. Does Joe ever travel to another beach to take
a photo, if requested?
A. This used to be an option, but it no longer fits into the schedule
with work and the cost of travel is somewhat prohibitive.
Q. What if I don't like the photo you send
me once I get it?
A. Simply return it for a refund of the cost of the item and any sales
tax. (Shipping charges cannot be refunded.)
Q. What if my photo is damaged in transit?
A. Simply return it and it will be replaced. Please call to make
arrangements.
Q. What type of paper is used for the photo
prints?
A. Joe uses Epson premium photo paper. As with all
artwork, photos are best preserved under glass (UV rated plexi-glass is
available at an extra charge) and away from direct sunlight and should be
matted to prevent contact with the glass. He uses an Epson 4000 Pro printer
but also has a Claria Hi-Defintion Epson ink jet photo printer.
Q. How are the pictures signed and
dated?
A. Inscriptions are on the mat. Prints do not normally have an
inscription. The standard format is, for example:
Sunrise
May 1, 2004
#/100 Joe Gerry
However, if there is something special you'd like, for example "Our Wedding
Day" or "Happy Retirement" or "Tyler's First
Day on Earth" or even just "1/100"
with Joe's signature, that's fine, too. Contact Joe for other inscription
samples from other customers.
Q. Are special frame options available?
A. Framing options have become an issue in CT due to increased prices. If
possible your best, and least expensive, option is to purchase a matted
print and buy a standard size frame to fit. 5 by 7 inch matted prints fit in
any 8 by 10 inch frame and 8 by 10 inch prints fit in any 11 by 14 inch
frame.
Q. Does Joe take photos other than sunrises?
A. Yes. There will soon be a 'non-sunrise' gallery on this web site. For
a sampling now, see Services.
Q. Is there a brochure that you can mail to
someone who doesn't have the Internet?
A. Yes, indeed. simply contact us to request one.
We are more than happy to mail you one.
